Bio
The paintings of Mary Law Goff are the result of geographical, professional, and spiritual journeys.
A solitary child growing up in Warren, Ohio, Mary expressed herself through poetry, which she embellished with colored designs. She carried out her fascination with color through a series of early works of nature...works a teacher described as "ethereal".
Mary has traveled throughout the country taking advantage of private lessons and workshops. These experiences provided the foundation upon which she continues to develop her own unique style. Mary's ethereal style of art has been showcased in various one woman shows. She owned and operated an art gallery for twelve years and used it as a source of continuing art education for her community. Sponsoring workshops, she also worked with the local art guild and organizing and judging many art competitions. With the sale of the gallery, she had time to focus on the development of her own work.
Mary was delighted to return to the magical, versatile world of watercolor. Her studies in color and form create an abstract expression of her innerself. Her works of art have been shown at juried shows and have been collected throughout the United States. In recognizing Mary's unique talent for the use of color, collectors have described her art as harmonious, compelling, and oftentimes, haunting. They are paintings of interior landscapes inspired by external environments.
Mary Law Goff now works predominantly in transparent watercolor, often incorporating metallics and rice paper to complete her visionary images. Through color and form she attempts to draw the viewers inside the painting where they ultimately become the creators.
