Math Doesn't Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail by Danica McKellarMath Doesn't Suck: How to Survive Middle-School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail
by Danica McKellar (Winnie on "The Wonder Years")

A refreshing book that, along with math concepts, teaches girls that being smart is cool!

Danica overcame her own middle school math difficulties with the help of a teacher, and went on to major in math in college. This book is not just about grasping math concepts; it is about how we perceive females.

In portraying mathematical savvy as a strength for females, the book seeks to counterbalance:
a) outdated expectations that the females are only cool when they are uninterested in math, and
b) female personalities seen in the press, whose behavior leaves little to admire.

Written with humor, this guide shows middle school girls how to improve their interest and abilities in math, and includes tips for parents.

As you can see from the book's cover - which we just had to include in large size so you could see how much fun it is - it is styled to be appealing and accessible.

Although it is directed toward the larger audience of mainstream school students, the math concepts and social perspectives apply to homeschoolers as well.
