Aromatherapy Book Reviews
The
Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy
by Valerie Ann Worwood
This is a comprehensive and easy to read text containing extensive
information on the uses of essential oils. When I ordered it from
a book club I expected a basic book on using essential oils for healing.
What I received was much more, and a very pleasant surprise. This
is an area in which I have little knowledge. Having read most of this
book, I can't imagine needing another one!
The author, Valerie Ann Worwood, gives more than 600 original recipes
using essential oils for: healing, stress relief, sports, beauty,
massage, repelling insects and pests, gardening, pets, cooking, house
cleaning, making candles and soaps, scenting firewood, making gifts,
blending your own perfumes and colognes, and directions for making
your own essential oils.
I was particularly interested in her list of essential oils for parties.
These not only set the mood, they are antiviral and antibacterial
as well. She lists 10 oils which are appropriate for such use, and
gives a recipe using cinnamon, clove and pine oils for creating a
flu-free zone. The oils may be added to candles, used in diffusers,
rings for light bulbs, a pot of boiling water, or used as a room spray.
A chart at the end of the book lists 60 antiseptic oils, many of which
also have antiviral, antibiotic and/or antifungal properties.
Also included are recipes for hangovers, overeating and "why
not be realistic and prepare the following formula for the party season"
says the author before giving her Pigging Out Formula.
