Public Comment Sought on SFWMD Hunting Proposals
Proposed hunt programs are in the works for three Southwest Florida Water Management District lands: Green Swamp West tract (Pasco), Lake Panasoffkee tract (Sumter) and Potts Preserve (Citrus). The lands were purchased through the Save Our Rivers and Preservation 2000 programs for protection of water resources and natural systems. Current uses are hiking, picnicking, bicycling, horseback riding, canoeing, camping, fishing, and nature study.

SFWMD and Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission have been working together to form a partnership to provide hunting while achieving equity and compatibility with the other recreational activities currently taking place. The types of hunting being considered include, archery, dove, general gun, muzzle loader, small game, feral hog, and spring turkey. The draft hunt plan is available through SFWMD by e-mail, fax or US mail by contacting Leigh Brooks at 1-800-423-1476 (x4472) or
